Here are our frequently asked questions to help you get started.

1. Why Don't You Bill My Insurance For Couples Therapy?

We do not accept health insurance for couples counseling for the following reasons:

  • Couples counseling is not deemed a medical necessity (a stipulation most insurance have to for reimbursement).
  • Because we believe that "relationship problems” in itself is not a mental health diagnosis (which is a requirement for health insurance to pay for therapy).
  • Insurance companies may require a single diagnosis for the couple (even though two people may have very different personal struggles).
  • Insurance can audit client records anytime.
  • Insurance companies may not pay for telehealth services.
  • Insurance companies often have complicated and inconsistent billing processes.

For these reasons, our practice doesn't process insurance claims for couples counseling.

2. What Are The Benefits to Not Using My Health Insurance?

  • Greater Privacy and Confidentiality:Since sessions are not billed through insurance, there's no need to record a formal diagnosis in your medical records. This can provide a greater sense of privacy and confidentiality for clients who are concerned about the stigma or potential impact of a mental health diagnosis.
  • Flexibility in Treatment Approach: Therapists who do not accept health insurance often have more flexibility in their therapies. They can tailor their approach to better meet each client's unique needs and goals without being limited by insurance requirements.
  • No Limits on Sessions: Insurance plans typically limit the number of therapy sessions covered, which may not be enough for clients with ongoing or complex issues. By working with a therapist who doesn't accept insurance, clients can attend as many sessions as they need to make meaningful progress in their healing journey.
  • More Focus on Client-Centered Care: Therapists can focus more on providing client-centered care without the constraints imposed by insurance companies. This means they can prioritize your individual needs and preferences rather than adhering strictly to insurance-mandated treatment protocols.
  • Reduced Administrative Hassle: Clients and therapists alike can avoid the administrative hassle associated with insurance billing, pre-authorizations, and claims processing. This allows therapists to focus more on providing quality care during sessions rather than navigating insurance paperwork.
  • Quality of Care: Therapists who choose not to accept insurance often do so because they prioritize the quality of care they can provide over the restrictions imposed by insurance companies. Clients can benefit from the expertise and dedication of these therapists, who are committed to helping them achieve their therapeutic goals.

3. What Are Your Fees For Therapy?

Our fees range from $30-$170 depending on service type and duration (we offer reduced rates if you choose to work with one of our qualified therapy interns under clinical supervision). For specialized services we offer bundled packages for Hypnotherapy, Coaching and Consultation services, please go to the 'Services' tab to learn more.

4. Can I Pay With Cash?

We accept debit cards and all major credit cards.  (No cash or checks!). We also accept voucher payments from reliable funding sources.

5. Do You Accept Commercial Insurance Plans?

Yes! Most clinicians accept insurance as payment for therapy (this does not include coaching, hypnotherapy or couples counseling- see #1).

Here is a list of health plans accepted below:

  • Aetna
  • Anthem
  • Humana
  • Cigna
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Optum
  • United Healthcare
  • Oscar

You should contact your insurance plan to determine your behavioral health coverage.

6. Do You Accept Medicaid?

Our clinical graduate interns may be able to provide services to people with Medicaid at low or no cost.

We are in the process of getting credentialed with Medicaid. However, until we are fully credentialed with Medicaid (including CMOs—Amerigroup, CaresSource, Peachstate, and Wellcare), we will not be able to submit claims for reimbursement.

In the meantime, our clinical interns may be able to offer low or no-cost therapy to you.

7. What If I Don't See My Insurance Plan Listed On Your Website?

If you have an insurance plan that is not one of the companies listed above, you may be able to use your out-of-network benefits. Check out the Insurance Benefits Checker under the 'Get Started' menu drop-down to instantly discover how you can use your out-of-network insurance plan to work with us. We also offer self pay options at affordable rates.

8. Do You Accept Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)?

We accept several EAP's including: SpringHealth, Matrix Psychological Services, Cigna EAP, Aetna EAP, Wellspring EAP, and more. Let us know which EAP (Employee Assistance Program) your employer offers and we will determine if we are on their panel.

9. Do You Offer Live Video, Online or Telehealth?

Yes! As long as you have a cell phone, tablet, or computer and one of our therapists is licensed in the state where you reside, we can start your telehealth session.

{Please note that telehealth may not be the right treatment choice for everyone. Your therapist will help to determine that.}

In 2018, we were among the early adopters of telehealth. When the pandemic happened in early 2020, we seamlessly transitioned to an exclusive online therapy practice! Our therapy and coaching services are scheduled and conducted on a HIPAA online video conferencing platform.

10. Can I Use My HSA or FSA Card For Therapy?

We accept most Health Spending Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) forms of payment. To find out if you are eligible for FSA or HSA please contact your benefits professional at your place of employment immediately!

11. Do You Offer a Sliding Fee Scale?

We offer deeply reduced rates when working with graduate-level interns (under clinical supervision), starting at $30 a session. For people with Medicaid, we can offer very low to no cost therapy services.

12. I Want Therapy But Cannot Afford It, Can You Help Me?

We are committed to exploring creative ways to decolonize mental health systems by using innovative ways to help dismantle financial barriers that prevent people who may be most at risk, namely most marginalized people (BIPOC groups), from receiving support.

Our response to the barriers includes working with charitable funds that help to mitigate the cost through monetary contributions through programs like the Loveland Foundation, which offers a financial voucher to people who meet their criteria.

Additionally, our clinical interns can offer reduced fees to help support beautiful souls like you every year (for a specific period).

We have a sliding scale fee for people experiencing wage and job insecurity or other extenuating circumstances.

Our process is based on an 'honor system' established through a 1:1 dialogue with our intake person who can tailor a wellness plan to meet your needs.

13. How Can I Pay It Forward?

We believe in the Kwanzaa principle of Cooperative Economics - mutual aid to marginalized groups funded by the community to help people unable to pay the total service cost due to wage disparities, resource insecurities, and other oppressive systems that may impede financial means. When able, the recipient will pay it forward to another human and the cycle of collective reciprocity continues.

We are always raising funds to help people get the mental health support they need. Click here to donate any amount you can to support someone else. https://gofund.me/4fdd49e2

14. When Can I Get Started?

Before you schedule an appointment, let's schedule a phone consultation to ensure we are the right fit for one another. We encourage you to check out each therapist's profile on our site. Send them a message using the contact feature on the therapist's page. We can schedule your first session when we both feel we are a good fit.
